Class Information
Ashtanga Yoga & General classes for the Local Brunswick Community.
Ashtanga Yoga
Traditionally Ashtanga Yoga is taught as a direct transmission from teacher to student.
A set sequence of postures linked together with breath, this practice aims to balance the body and focus the mind, and offers an invitation to cultivate a relationship to deeper aspects of ourselves. Together, the teacher and student work with the practice in a way which suits the student as they get to know their own body: what works and doesn’t. Every body is different.
Students will typically practice at their own pace guided and assisted by the teacher within a group setting (self practice) known as ‘Mysore Style’, named after the Indian city of Mysore, the home of Ashtanga Yoga.
Ashtanga Yoga Foundations Course
Held monthly, this course teaches students the foundations of Ashtanga Yoga and is an introduction to the Primary Series. Over a 4 week period, 1 hour per week, we learn the fundamentals and the aim is for students to come away with a practice to develop further during self practice classes.
Self Practice Classes
Named ‘Mysore Style’ after the city in India the practice originates from, self practice classes are typically held in the mornings and are an opportunity for students to work through the sequence in their own time with the assistance of the teacher, who is on hand for adjustments and supporting the student in further developing their practice. The practice space is open for a set period of time and the student can arrive at a time which suits them (making sure there is enough time for them to complete their practice before the space closes).
Ashtanga Yoga Led Class
During a led class the teacher will guide the students through the full or half primary series. This is an opportunity for students to fine tune their practice and breath count as the teacher guides the group through the practice.
An opportunity to take a break from the busy work day to drop in and connect to our breath and body. Lunchtime classes are a great way to reset the nervous system, quiet the mind and settle into our bodies during the day.
If your workplace has a space where employees can roll out their mats and gather as a group, this is sure to offer the team a boost for the afternoon.

PRIVATE SESSIONS
A group setting is not for everyone. If you haven’t practiced yoga before, have specific needs which you would like to address privately, or in general you just don’t like being in a class setting, then private sessions are an alternative solution to enable you to begin your yoga journey. We can also work 1:1 if you have an established practice and feel you would like more guidance and hands on support from a teacher than you might receive in class, or work together on the foundations for self practice in a 1:1 setting and you can join the community classes when you feel ready to do so.
If you have the time, space and resources to do this at home, we can set up a schedule that suits you.
Private sessions can also be a way for a group of friends to learn and practice together and be a support to each other.
Available as individual 1 hour sessions or as a block of 10 at a reduced cost.
